What is Water Security?

Water security has been defined as “The reliable availability of an acceptable quantity and quality of water for health, livelihoods and production, coupled with an acceptable level of water-related risks”.

“The capacity of a population to safeguard sustainable access to adequate quantities of acceptable quality water for sustaining livelihoods, human well-being, and social-economic development, for ensuring protection against water-borne pollution and water-related disasters, and the preserving Eco-systems in a climate of peace and political stability.” – United Nations.

Water is indeed a priceless resource and water conservation is indeed a need of hour. Water resources are those sources of water which can be used by human beings. Imperative for life to exist, water has multiple uses: agriculture, industries, and house holds all require water. In fact, most of the human activities require fresh water. The need of the hour is to ensure that we create awareness about water security, arm the students with ways and means towards water conservation, equip them with water management techniques and ensure that they are aware of the ways to maintain water quality.

The main objective of learning Water Security is to ensure that we create responsible citizens who are aware of the impact of their action on water crisis and water scarcity.
